Sunflower Pollination in Argentina At first days of January we visit the operations center of the Beekeeping Department of Dekalb, recently acquired for Monsanto's group, in the town of "Gral. Villegas", Buenos Aires province. There Juan Werbowecki, beekeeping manager, received us. We visit several pollination fields with him and we converse on requirements that the company has for beekeepers that lend them service. There exist two types of cultivations for technicians in the matter. One of commercial production and other of seed production basically. Both need a pollination agent action because the sunflower pollen is so much heavy and precise pollinators insects, because it can not be dragged by the wind. The note makes reference to the whole activity that develops this Department with beehives and with hired beekeepers. To top Full Time Beekeepers Honey Crop There are many and varied work methods in the country and specifically of honey crop. Each one of us goes adapting his organization and method according to: the floral and climatic characteristics of the area where we work; to our immediate objectives and of long term; to the infrastructure that we possesses; and to our personal preferences. The experience that we describe it is of Antonio Batista, in Carlos Tejedor's town in Bs.As. province, who work with an important number of beehives in production like others professional beekeepers of the "humid pampas". In the extensive note, accompanied by several very illustrative pictures, we make reference to the main topics with the following subtitles: - APIARIES DISPOSITION IN THE HUMID PAMPAS - DAWNING IN THE COUNTRY - THE CROP. TO "UNBEE" HIVES - SOME OBSERVATIONS . YIELD OF THE WORK . THE BEE . ORPHAN BEEHIVES . 3/4 «AMERICAN» HIVES . FLORAL REQUIREMENTS . LOADS AND DISCHARGES - CONCLUSION Like to all system it is necessary to take practice. For beekeepers who works in areas with an important nectar caudal it is a very good option. Because, if you can return of the country one morning with 8.000 kg of honey, it is not a little thing! and costs decrease significantly. Obviously it is necessary to have a lot of material, 4 or 5 "3/4 hives" per beehive. We thank to Batista's patience that they have had to us during our visit. To top |

The note describes the included topics detailedly in the following subtitles: - A VISIT TO THE CREACYT - THE HONEY ACIDITY - NITROGEN DETERMINATION - SUGARS DETERMINATION - ASHY DETERMINATION - GAS CROMATOGRAPHS WITH MASS SPECTROMETER ANALYSIS Being the Cromatograph technique quite complex, we will explain it into separated note. We thanks Sandra and Roxana the attention excused to us to carry out this note and in turn to Rosa Isabel Antón, Doctor and Projects Director of the Center, to also allow us to photograph and to travel with total freedom into the Center. In ESPACIO APICOLA'S Nº 34 we present this modern analytic technology that will invade the beekeeping world in a very little time. Mr. Lucas Dakoff. He is accustomed to a hard fight for survival. When the current limits of the honey commercialization loomed up, he decided to set up an extraction room according to the SENASA's norm number 220. |
