EDITORIAL
We arrive at this time overflowing of happiness because the crops in the center-north of our country was very good and these ones have alleviated the hard situation which many apiaries suffered in last two years. We hope that rains, although late, have composed the situation of the south of "Buenos Aires" and "La Pampa" provinces a little. And, if it doesn't reach to expenses, at least it reaches so that beehives spend well the winter.
Common denominator, of how many places we have visited in these months, it is the honey price. As we have expressed it in the previous number of "Espacio Apícola", and after the financial crisis of Brazil, we think that this situation transcends the honey market. The depreciation responds mainly to a global system crisis. This crisis doesn't seem to have solution in a short term and it generates economic and restrictive measures in countries buyers.
To those restrictive measures, imposed by countries buyers, it is necessary to add the current one normative that governs in our country. This doesn't promote the direct commercializations between local producers and foreign buyers. We are very far of many conferences that they insisted us we listened on: International trade; Exports Promotion; that the producer exports its bottled honey, etc...
Maybe the current recycled drums use authorization, after the norm that prohibited these definitively, it be a mentality change sign that the whole sector are also waiting in other items.
Finally it is necessary to say that the «profitable business», the «market», from Phoenician's time, it's for businessmans, not for producers. It is necessary to have money to trade; or in the defect to have credit. This case, the business will be for the Bank.
As most of us we doesn't live off rents, neither of the charity of anybody, in these joints we have to think how to gleaning us. For that reason "ESPACIO APICOLA" comes working on different axes:
1º. We look for to optimize honey production methods lowering these cost. We guide ourselves, starting from a responsible practice, toward a low cost of quality certification, to conserve the preference of the market in front of other competitors.
2º. We offer tools to diversify the production according to preference, possibilities and convenience of each one; like it can be the Royal Jelly production and the Pollen Crop.
3º. We generate a space so that all we know, and it will be known in the entire world, the important investigation works that careful Argentinean professionals are developing.
These three axes will be present in the «7th Fair and Beekeeping Meeting of the Center of the Republic» Expo-Apícola Río Cuarto‘99.
At these time we will surely have time to debating many other topics and mainly to share the friendship. Go getting ready, already lack a little. In the next issue we will publish the schedule of activities and other informations.

Sunflower Pollination in Argentina
Colmenares dispuestos en Sembrados de Girasol
At first days of January we visit the operations center of the Beekeeping Department of Dekalb, recently acquired for Monsanto's group, in the town of "Gral. Villegas", Buenos Aires province.
There Juan Werbowecki, beekeeping manager, received us. We visit several pollination fields with him and we converse on requirements that the company has for beekeepers that lend them service.
There exist two types of cultivations for technicians in the matter. One of commercial production and other of seed production basically.

Both need a pollination agent action because the sunflower pollen is so much heavy and precise pollinators insects, because it can not be dragged by the wind.
The note makes reference to the whole activity that develops this Department with beehives and with hired beekeepers.

Full Time Beekeepers Honey Crop
Desabejado con alzas 3/4 americana
There are many and varied work methods in the country and specifically of honey crop.
Each one of us goes adapting his organization and method according to: the floral and climatic characteristics of the area where we work; to our immediate objectives and of long term; to the infrastructure that we possesses; and to our personal preferences.
The experience that we describe it is of Antonio Batista, in Carlos Tejedor's town in Bs.As. province, who work with an important number of beehives in production like others professional beekeepers of the "humid pampas".
Descarga del Material Cosechado en la Sala de Extraccion
In the extensive note, accompanied by several very illustrative pictures, we make reference to the main topics with the following subtitles:
- APIARIES DISPOSITION IN THE HUMID PAMPAS
- DAWNING IN THE COUNTRY
- THE CROP. TO "UNBEE" HIVES
- SOME OBSERVATIONS
. YIELD OF THE WORK
. THE BEE
. ORPHAN BEEHIVES
. 3/4 «AMERICAN» HIVES
. FLORAL REQUIREMENTS
. LOADS AND DISCHARGES
- CONCLUSION
Like to all system it is necessary to take practice. For beekeepers who works in areas with an important nectar caudal it is a very good option. Because, if you can return of the country one morning with 8.000 kg of honey, it is not a little thing! and costs decrease significantly.
Obviously it is necessary to have a lot of material, 4 or 5 "3/4 hives" per beehive. We thank to Batista's patience that they have had to us during our visit.
