EDITORIAL
There are two Argentinas

Fernando Esteban, our director (July of 2001) Without ignoring the multiple facets of our extensive country, we find opportune to make a brief reflection on the two realities that frame the multiplicity and how it impact in our productive and commercial activity.
On one hand, the outstanding headlines, centered in the cajolement world of the strolling players (politics or artistic), show the Government's problems (National, Provincial or Local), the “risk country”, how fall down “The Stock”, the privatizations, the struggle for the power among those that are under arrest and those that should be also, the “big projects” that habitually become in a big robbery, the permanent declamation of “what should be made” (All us be teachers) and nobody ago. The miseries that everywhere are plentiful.
On the other hand, the people who work, not only to survive; also producing goods and services every time of better quality, sharing their achievements and knowledge so that other they can also progress and that they constitute the pride of the children of this magnificent Nation without a doubt.
We believe that this last reality is much more numerous, it maintains stand up the country that other cannot finish impoverishing; and they are the moral, social and economic reserves of the transformation that we need.
To this hard-working people we dedicate our biggest effort, our paper and ink. There are many producers, investigators, educational, professionals, technicians, industrial and managers worthy of the best praise. The last “Fair and Beekeeping Meeting of the Center of the Republic” it was an alive testimony of it. Nobody went unsuccessfully to Río Cuarto or because they had more than enough money. All, from the smallest to the biggest, they went making a great economic effort. But they were also knowing, that there they can generate true transformations. The other hand take us like merely spectators, paralyzed, silenced and amazed in front of real or fictitious scandals whose truth we will never know.
"Espacio Apícola” was born, and it's alive!, to surprise and rejoice ourselves permanently with all we have and we are, without allowing the abulia and the apathy to conquer us in the one that the bureaucrats and sensationalist they seek to sink us.
We hope that the weather accompanies us next season, we want to offer you our encouragement so that gets ready in front of the new season with the best disposition and enthusiasm, taking care of the beehives health, maintaining your beekeeping capital under the best possible conditions, cheering up to be overcome in your knowledge and beekeeping practice, be attentive mainly in that stimulates and edify yourself.

Monofloral Honeys of "Tamarindo" and "Atamisqui"; and the possibility to produce monofloral honey of "Algarrobo" and "Alpataco"
- Original work -
M.C. Wingenroth, Dr.

Presentation of the Editor: Under the title “The Honeys of Asunción”, one of the most important conclusions in the outlined work is presented by Mónica Cristina Wingenroth, Dr.
She demonstrates that "Algarrobo", "Tamarindo" and "Atamisqui" monofloral honeys it's possible to crop.
Beekeepers with a lot of experience thought that it was impossible to diversify the productions of our natural forest, for the supposed interference that would exist between the mentioned blossoms and others of smaller importance in the area described in this work.
The conclusions of this original work that we publish, open horizons more than interesting for all the beekeepers that work, during great part of the season, in natural forest areas.
Following the sequence of the blossoms, certain just as we have outlined it in the methodology described in previous editions, the beekeeper has a fundamental tool to give value added to his production.

Dumping: Preliminary sanction

On May the preliminary sanction of the USA Department of Commerce (DOC), against Honey importing from Argentina, was known officially. The companies (ACA and Radix) they were sanctioned with percentages among 50 to 60%, to what 6,55% should be added as sanction by presumed subsidies from the Argentinean Government to the producers. The not sanctioned companies will pay a tariff average of those mentioned.
The chronogram that we had announced in Espacio Apícola # 45 continues this way.-
The article makes reference to the actions carried out by diferent people. One of them was the presentation of a petition to the Mr. President of the Nation. In the photo three children of beekeepers appear behind those which the Mr. President of Argentina Dr. Fernando de la Rua is located; flanked, from left to right, by Fernando Esteban (director of the magazine "Espacio Apícola" and of this "Argentine Beekeeping" website); Mario Gatti (President of the Association of beekeepers SADA) and the machineries maker José Marinari (President of "Implementos Marinari"). The picture is of Mr. Arno Meyer (president of the exporter company "Times S.A.").
The president of the Nation Dr. Fernando de la Rua and managers of the Argentine Beekeeping Industry
The article concludes with the following opinion of the director of "Espacio Apícola":

WHO CARRY THE CAN?
The beekeepers of USA had lost the subsidy of the State at the beginning of the 90, then they made sanction against China for Dumping and that elevated the price of the honey by the middle of the decade.
When the Argentine honey exports grew notably they sanction against Argentina and China again.
On the other hand they recover the subsidies of the USA Government, with the advantage that this subsidy will be paid by Argentine and Chines producers through the imposed tariffs, then they are all very happy.
The rest is anecdote. Since Malinche, the daughter of an Amerindian cacique, She was given by the Mayan from Tabasco to Hernán Cortés conquer, in 1519, many children of our countries, our siblings, give us day by day in exchange for cheap baits.
For the defense, the Argentine exporters companies hire onerous studies of lawyers in Washington... that have serious difficulties to edit an affidativ in the right terms!, we are certain it... because they havn't specific technical advice.
It seemed that, during more than five months, the Argentine companies has been paying to lawyers that don't know the facts of the demand.
There are companies that can suffer of experience. Other, they delegate their responsibility in employees to those couldn't care less the Argentine Beekeeping.
On the other hand the Argentinean Government's officials insist in that it is not possible to claim on the W.T.O. until it concludes this administrative stage.... The scarce achievements obtained up to now in the defense of the State, for presumed subsidies to the productive sector, is to think that also this statement is a formal answer; that they don't have negotiating capacity to change the scenario of the battle field and that, charging their salary of the Argentinean People, they seem to behave as simple emissaries of strangers interests.
The dissociation of government's officials with the sectoral interests is historical and more and more accented.
Meanwhile, those that live off this activity, we will "carry the can!".-

Argentinean beekeepers learning how to mount pollen samples and to observe them to the microscope with the Wingenroth Dr. help

The volume of commercial operations fell, however, it was above all the others fairs carried out in this year.
Although the concern, the lack of money and the uncertainty was reflected by the producers and the suppliers of machineries, tools and inputs, they was happy for meet with many friends and for the excellent technical level, variety and the lecturers' quality that it motivated to make a significant effort to arrive this year at "Río Cuarto".

Specific properties of each honey
Valeria Llull and Griselda Jullier
The biochemical Griselda Jullier de Cerda works in the Laboratory of Instrumental Physics, of the Bromatology Direction of Santa Fe province and she is in charge of the chromatographics technics that are carried out in this laboratory.
Besides their habitual tasks, inherent to the specific activity of the laboratory, it develops different investigation projects, for those that doesn't receive complementary economic compensation some, in order to determine the quality of the honeys.
Among those projects she worked doing a protocol to determine adulteration of honeys with Corn Syrup of High Fructose.

Determination of the Hygienic Behavior of Bees
- Original Article -
J.A. Marcangeli, Dr.

The rehearsals to check the hygienic behavior of the bees have been the Queenbees breeders' matter, almost exclusively, for many years. Today, the necessity to maintain the sanity of our beehives, forces to all of us to know which those methods are.
The article of the Dr. Jorge Marcangeli and his wife María del Carmen García, illustrates us about how to carry out a control and it confirms, before some outlined doubts, the validity of the traditional described method.
